This is my first encounter with the Kregel Exegetical Library’s Old Testament commentary set.  I may be a bit biased because Garrett is a professor at my alma matter, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  This commentary was designed with the pastor/teacher in mind.  Garrett approaches the biblical text by analyzing the Hebrew text on a clause-by-clause basis.  Each section is generously footnoted and Garrett provides commentary as a Christian theologian viewing the passage through the lens of the New Testament,

One aspect of this work that I appreciate is the introductory section.  Clocking in at over 140 pages, Garrett covers topics such as authorship and date along with a very interesting discussion of Egyptian culture.

As with any commentary, one should approach the biblical text independently and only refer to commentaries after first struggling with the text.  This is an excellent commentary to add to your arsenal.   I look forward to exploring other titles in this series.
