I want to start by saying I have been a big fan of Charles Spurgeon for many years. When I heard Christian George was editing a selection of Spurgeon’s sermons needless to say, I was excited. In this edition, George picks up where he left off in volume one. This volume covers the time period of 1851 to 1854.

In the Introduction, George provides lots of detailed information regarding the sermons in volume 2. This volume contains fifty-seven sermons. Of this, thirty-two (56 percent) are on New Testament texts and twenty-five sermons (44 percent) are on Old Testament texts. Isaiah and Luke are most represented (six sermons each). In total Spurgeon preached from twenty-six of the sixty-six books of the Bible (39 percent).

Just as in volume one, each sermon is reproduced on the left page while the transcription is placed on the right.  Just to be able to see Spurgeon’s actual notes, one can almost feel the process he used to bring together his sermons.

When complete, this set will contain twelve volumes. I am truly looking forward to the complete set of these sermons.
