I approached this work wondering what new preaching methods could be added to the numerous preaching volumes that had already been written. Pelton draws from works by Haddon Robinson and Bryan Chapell to present his method for finding the Christ-centered big ideas for preaching.
Chapter 1 opens by asking the question, "Does accurate exposition work anymore?" This chapter delves into 1 Corinthians 14:24-25 to explore how God's Word, while aimed at Christians can also reach non Christians who overhear our worship.
Chapter 2 looks at the multiple meaning to many passages and how to is important to understand if you are preaching a big idea or a little idea.
Chapters 3-7 focus on finding the Christ-centered big idea in each passage. Chapters focus on how the choice of preaching portions affects meaning and application. Other chapters deal with identifying the big idea and little ideas present in the passage.
This book is an interesting blend of many other preaching books. Pelton provides many examples for the reader to practice as ideas are presented. Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to applying the concepts found
